The Diaphragm Nobody Thinks About

A float carb needs to sit level or it floods. A diaphragm carb doesn't care — that's the whole trick, and it's why your chainsaw runs upside down and your lawn mower doesn't. Most people who own one have never thought about why. They just pull the cord, sometimes three times, sometimes twelve, and curse the primer bulb without knowing it's the reason the thing starts at all. You don't need to know how it works to use it. You do need to know how it works to fix it. That's the whole difference between owning a tool and understanding one.
